One of the reasons I became a journalist was a quote I read from Joseph Campbell, in which he said journalists have the obligation to educate themselves in public. Here are a few interviews I did that helped me educate myself about publishing during my time at Portland State:
During my two years at Portland State, I also wrote for the Office of University Communications. Here are some samples:
- A profile of Peter Dusicka, a PSU engineering professor who’s helping prepare Oregon’s infrastructure for big earthquakes, from the Spring 2017 issue of Portland State Magazine.
- An article about PSU’s Center for Women’s Leadership, from the Winter 2017 issue of Portland State Magazine.
- A story on Pete Denman, a PSU alum who discovered that dyslexia and an accident that left him quadriplegic made him the perfect person to help redesign Stephen Hawking’s communication system.
- An article on a comic book made by artist Steven Christian for the university’s Office of Admissions.
