Los Angeles Greek Film Festival 2022

In spring 2022, I was asked to edit movie descriptions and other text for the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival–and then, when the festival staff discovered that I was also a book designer, I was also asked to lay out the program book. The limited palette I used was inspired by the 2022 festival poster, as were the sans-serif fonts. My goal was to keep the emphasis on the striking images from the movies, and to make the program as clean and readable as possible. Here are a few sample page spreads:

Whole Plants

This is a collection of recipes from various sources, all with one thing in common: They use nothing but whole plants. No processed foods, no animal products, no sweeteners of any kind. The design is meant to be as simple and colorful as the ingredients, with sans-serif fonts, and broad top and bottom borders with a palette drawn from the photographs of the dishes.

Mystery Novel Trading Cards

This was a fun project that I did in a design course in the book publishing master’s program at Portland State University: the assignment was to research book covers and create a presentation in an unconventional form. I chose the early history of mystery novel covers (because I love mysteries!), and I made a set of trading cards with an accompanying mini-booklet.
